Having embarked on a successful professional career after college, Eileen understood the importance of hard work and economic contribution. However, as a married mother in her mid-40s, she sees a bleak future for her children in Ireland without significant change.Eileen is determined to be a catalyst for change in her community of East Cork.

Despite never envisioning a career in politics, Kelly-McCarthy was inspired to act through her involvement in voluntary work in East Cork, where she encountered many who felt voiceless and marginalised. She is determined to stand up for her community and advocate for East Cork's needs, free from the constraints of old party structures.

On announcing her candidacy Eileen said "I was drawn to Independent Ireland's common-sense approach, and the lack of a strict party whip system which allows candidates to fully express their views and advocate for their community without fear of censure. The party aligns fully with my values and aspirations for East Cork and for Ireland. I am honoured to be part of this new direction and I am eager to contribute to the party's vision for positive change."

Cllr Ken O’Flynn, Cork City Northeast LEA

Cllr Ken O'Flynn, a respected community leader and former deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, has officially declared his candidacy for both local and general elections under the Independent Ireland banner. With an impressive 16-year tenure on Cork City Council, Cllr O'Flynn brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving his constituents. Cllr O'Flynn will takes on the role of Spokesperson for Urban Affairs due to his many years experience as a city councillor in a constituency that has both large urban and rural communities in its boundaries.

Cllr. John O’Donoghue, Adare Rathkeale LEA

Married with 3 children, John has worked tirelessly for the people of Limerick county since being co-opted onto Limerick Co. Council following his brother Richard's election to Dail Eireann in 2020.  

John is a busy farmer/agri contractor and is a strong advocate for the farming community having spent all of his life working in the farming sector, coming from a family that has farmed the land for generations.

Hartigan, from Pallaskenry, has a deep-rooted belief in the power of strong representation to effect positive change.

"I am running as an Independent Ireland candidate because I believe that being a young candidate gives me the ability to represent and work with all people to get the best possible results for our community," expressed Hartigan. "I am passionate about rural Ireland and don't feel we are being heard on the political stage. Independent Ireland gives me the support of a party structure while still allowing me to retain my principles and priorities in working for the people of Limerick to deliver the full support and positive change I believe our community needs"

His journey into politics is fueled by a desire to bridge the gap between politicians and the people they serve. Hartigan emphasises, "Politics isn't about suits and meetings; it's about you and me—the people who are affected by the decisions made. I feel that I have something to bring to you, the people of the district. I can't promise you much except my best. In my humble opinion, it's not about you or me; it's about us."

Eddie O’Gorman, Newport LEA

Independent Ireland is pleased to announce the candidacy of Eddie O'Gorman for the Newport Local Electoral Area in the upcoming elections. A dedicated community leader and longtime resident of Ballina/Killaloe, Eddie brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving his local area.

Born and bred in the twin towns of Ballina/Killaloe, Eddie has spent the majority of his working life contributing to the betterment of his community. His involvement in various community-based committees, including his role as Chairman of the Killaloe Ballina Enhancement Group and operator of the local charity "Killaloe Ballina Area Better Christmas Fund," highlights his dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

Addressing the pressing issues facing the Newport Local Electoral Area, Eddie emphasizes the need for action on housing, healthcare, flooding, and road maintenance. He advocates for a multi-faceted approach to housing, including social housing, affordable housing, and streamlined planning permission processes. Eddie also calls for the immediate reopening of Shannon Doc and the establishment of a 24-hour A&E in Nenagh to improve healthcare accessibility for local residents.

Dermot Kelleher, Macroom LEA

His advocacy for vital healthcare services, such as Bantry General Hospital, resonates deeply with me, particularly after the recent passing of my beloved wife Mary, it gave us great comfort to know she passed in Bantry hospital rather than a large general hospital potentially lying on a trolley - it is this and the great work that Michael Collins does that made me decide to run for Independent Ireland"

Dermot Kelleher's tenure as President of the ICSA was marked by his unwavering commitment to the well-being of farmers and their families. He was instrumental in initiatives such as Life Focus, which highlighted the importance of mental health support within the farming community.

"Life Focus offers a listening ear to farmers facing personal challenges exacerbated by economic and political stresses," explains Dermot. "It's crucial to prioritize mental health in Irish agriculture, and I am proud of the impact that initiatives like Life Focus have had."

Despite personal challenges, including the loss of his wife Mary to motor neurone disease, Dermot Kelleher remains steadfast in his dedication to serving others. He has received recognition for his contributions to West Cork farming, including a Southern Star West Cork Farming award in July 2023.In addition to his agricultural advocacy, Dermot Kelleher emphasizes the importance of food regulation and the need for an independent food regulator to safeguard the interests of farmers and consumers."

Matthew Moroney, Kilalloe LEA

"I believe Independent Ireland will be the party to deliver real change," affirms Matthew Moroney. "With common-sense approaches, they offer the support, strength, and structure of a party without the constraints of the whip. I am confident that together, we can make a difference at all levels of government."

Hailing from the East Clare village of Broadford, Matthew Moroney is a proud suckler farmer with a diverse professional background. With experience in butchery, agricultural contracting, and running his own garage and vehicle sales, Matthew understands the challenges facing rural communities firsthand. Currently employed at Arrabawn Co-op in Bridgetown, Co Clare, Matthew is deeply rooted in the local economy and is passionate about advocating for the needs of East Clare residents.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Matthew is actively involved in community initiatives, notably founding and running the East Clare Community Alert Facebook page—a platform dedicated to addressing crime in the area.

Matthew's goals for East Clare are clear and focused on addressing the pressing issues facing the community, moreover, Matthew is dedicated to the reopening of the Accident and Emergency department at Ennis Hospital, making it easier for patients to access vital healthcare services within their own county.

Brendan O’Connor, Kanturk LEA

Brendan O'Connor, a dedicated community leader and advocate for rural Ireland, has officially declared his candidacy for the Kanturk Local Electoral Area (LEA) in the upcoming local elections. With a strong commitment to serving his community and a wealth of experience in various sectors, O'Connor brings a pragmatic approach and a determination to address the pressing needs of Kanturk and its surrounding areas.

A proud resident of Newtownshandrum for nearly two decades, O'Connor is deeply rooted in the local community. He resides with his wife Eileen, and together they have raised four children and are proud grandparents to one. O'Connor's upbringing in Bruree, Co Limerick, instilled in him a strong sense of community and a commitment to service.

Professionally, O'Connor has a diverse background, having worked as a welder fabricator in the dairy and pharma sectors before transitioning to roles in agricultural and engineering. His work has taken him across the country, providing him with a broad perspective on the needs and challenges facing rural communities.

In addition to his professional endeavors, O'Connor has been actively involved in community organizations and sports clubs in Newtownshandrum. He has served as a manager, coach, and selector for Newtown GAA and Newtownshandrum camogie clubs, contributing to the development of youth and adult teams. O'Connor has also dedicated his time to the Newtownshandrum Tidy Towns committee, serving as Chairperson for two years, and the Shandrum National School Parents Association, where he currently holds the position of Assistant Treasurer.

Ruth Clarke, Limerick City North LEA

Ruth Clarke, a proud and hardworking mother and native of Limerick, has officially declared her candidacy for the Limerick City North Local Electoral Area (LEA) with the Independent Ireland Party. With a diverse background encompassing both rural and urban experiences, Clarke brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to improving the lives of her fellow citizens.

Having spent her childhood on a family farm, Ruth developed a deep connection to rural life and agriculture. Her passion for equestrian sports led her to work in her family's equestrian center for over a decade, fostering a strong work ethic and a love for community engagement.

Despite the demands of motherhood, Clarke pursued her educational goals, attending college at night to become a qualified teacher. Alongside her teaching career, she successfully ran a catering business, showcasing her culinary talents and entrepreneurial spirit.

Qualified to teach in multiple subjects including History, Geography, Religion, Politics and Society, and Social, Personal, and Health Education (SPHE), Clarke is deeply invested in Irish history and culture. Her decision to run for Independent Ireland reflects her dedication to addressing the pressing issues facing her community.

"I love our country, I love our culture, and I have been so discouraged at how this government has let the people down," said Clarke. "As a mother of adult children who cannot get a mortgage, no matter how hard they work, I felt it was time to stand up for their future and join Richard O'Donoghue and the rest of the TDs and candidates in building a party that will truly work for the people of this country.  I want a better future for our children, and believe it's time to stand up for what we believe the majority of people in Ireland want - common-sense politics that improve the lives of our people.”

John Collins, Bandon/Kinsale LEA

John Collins, a longstanding proprietor of Chaplins Bar in Bandon, has officially launched his candidacy for the Bandon Kinsale Local Electoral Area (LEA) with Independent Ireland. With deep roots in the community and a wealth of experience in constituency work, Collins is poised to be a strong voice for the people of Bandon/KInsale and surrounding areas.

John has lived in Bandon since 1987 having bought Chaplins Bar with late wife Mary McCarthy in 1988.  He is a well-known and respected figure in the area. He first became interested in politics through the community work of his late mother Patricia and late uncle Michael McCarthy, who served as director of Elections for the late Labour TD Michael Pat Murphy.  Since 2016, John has been an integral part of his brother Michael Collins TD's team and is actively engaged in constituency work alongside his younger brother, Councillor Danny Collins.   

John is father of Cian and Ava and married to Diane who comes from a well known Bandon business family and has provided employment in the area for decades, addressing the many concerns of business owners and employers in the area will form a key part of his campaign priorities.

John has played a pivotal role in assisting individuals in accessing urgent medical care through the Belfast or Blind service, facilitating sight-saving and life-changing operations for thousands of people across Cork and beyond as part of the cross-border directive.

Kevin Hassett, a seasoned dairy and beef farmer from Kilkee, Co. With a deep connection to rural life and a wealth of experience in agricultural advocacy, Kevin brings a steadfast commitment to representing the interests of his community.

Martin O’Shea, Cork City North West LEA

Born and raised in Blarney, Martin O'Shea has dedicated his life to the betterment of his hometown and surrounding areas. With a background in building and working at Blarney Mills, Martin has a strong understanding of the local economy and the needs of residents. He has been actively involved in local politics for many years, having volunteered and helped elect two former Lord Mayors of Cork, Joe Callan and PJ Horgan.

"Having lived in Blarney all my life, I have seen the challenges and opportunities facing our community. Martin has been a founding member of several community initiatives and has always been at the forefront of efforts to improve the quality of life for residents.

Joe Harris, Cork South Central LEA

Former Cork City County Councillor Joe Harris has officially announced his candidacy for the Cork City South Central Local Election Area (LEA) with Independent Ireland. With a rich background in community service, financial advisory, and advocacy, Harris brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his campaign.

Harris, a native of Douglas and a father of four, served as a councillor on Cork County Council from 2014 to 2019, where he demonstrated his commitment to addressing the needs of his constituents. With over 30 years of active involvement in the community, Harris has gained a deep understanding of the challenges facing Cork City and is passionate about advocating for positive change.

Ger Curley, Cobh LEA

Independent Ireland is pleased to announce the candidacy of Ger Curley for the upcoming local elections in the Cobh Local Electoral Area (LEA). Ger Curley, a lifelong resident of Cobh, has a deep-rooted connection to the area. Married to Catherine, the local postmistress, and father to Thomas and Niamh, Ger’s family ties and personal investment in Cobh are profound. His early career in the Naval Service, where he served for 21 years, instilled in him a strong sense of duty and community, qualities he has carried into his civilian life.

After his naval career, Ger ventured into entrepreneurship, opening his first shop in 2000 and eventually expanding to three shops. In 2006, he took over the management of Jack Doyle’s bar, further cementing his role within the local business community. As a sports enthusiast, Ger has not only won 13 national medals in running but has also contributed to the community as a soccer coach and FAI coach, particularly focusing on youth and special needs programs in Cobh and Rochestown.

Ken Brennan, Fermoy LEA

Ken Brennan, a dedicated family man and experienced CNC machine operator in the medical devices industry, has declared his candidacy for the Fermoy Local Election Area (LEA) in the upcoming local elections. Daniel Sexton brings a wealth of experience and a strong sense of community to his candidacy. Having lived and attended secondary school in both Clonakilty and Dunmanway, Daniel has deep roots in the region and a thorough understanding of the challenges faced by its residents. For over 8 years, he has served customers across West Cork at John O’Driscoll Motor Factors in Skibbereen, gaining firsthand insight into the needs and concerns of the local community.

Having topped the poll in the Bantry Electoral Area during the 2019 elections, Cllr Collins has long been recognized for his exemplary leadership skills and passion for fostering positive change.

Hailing from Lowertown Schull, Mayor Collins embodies the spirit of Cork County, with a humble upbringing and a strong sense of community values. He is a man that has worked tirelessly and for the betterment of Cork County and its residents.

Michael Gallwey a native of Tramore is our candidate for Tramore/Waterford City West. He is from a local business family going back many generations in Tramore and Waterford. Professionally Michael is qualified in Business Management and Construction Management and has worked in his local
electoral area constituency for a large multi-national business.

Michael promotes a view of personal development, personal responsibility, and equality of opportunity. He wants to see people reach their full potential so they have an economic and social stake in society. He supports entrepreneurship and an enterprise culture where education, business, agriculture, and tourism flourish.
In stating some of his reasons for joining Independent Ireland, Michael says “there is a substantial disconnect between all the established parties and the real views of people. This was reflected in the recent referendum results. Another example is the proposed draconian hate speech bill which if
passed will have a chilling effect on free speech in our society. I want to play my part in pushing back against a disconnected political elite and reestablish a connection that serves peoples needs.” Issues such as health, housing, anti-social behaviour and law and order will be a priority for Michael. He will be a strong voice in the community to promote common sense policies, a cohesive society and Nation State. He supports proper border and immigration control
