O’Flynn: “200 days of a Government adrift – Fixated on trying to solve the world's problems as multiple crises continue to mount at home”
Independent Ireland TD for Cork North Central Ken O’Flynn has branded the first 200 days of the current Government “a masterclass in drift and delay” and warned that Ireland cannot afford another day of inaction.
Referencing the Business Post’s stark assessment of the coalition’s record, Deputy O’Flynn said the Government has “squandered its early mandate” and shown “a dangerous complacency” in the face of mounting national challenges.
“In just over six months, we’ve seen no credible housing plan worthy of the emergency we face, no decisive action to tackle spiralling crime, and no coherent strategy to protect our economic and strategic interests abroad,” he said. “We've heard a lot of talk about tackling immigration and read the headlines that try to make it look like they are getting tougher on the problem but they have made no real impact on the issue"
"They appear to have a fixation on fixing the world's problems while multiple crises continue to mount at home"
Deputy O’Flynn warned that the consequences of Government inaction are being felt in every community.
“Families are still locked out of home ownership. Business owners are struggling with insecurity and rising costs. Our reputation abroad is suffering because we look like a country that can’t make up its mind. Delay has become the principal instrument of policy — and that is unacceptable.”
Calling for urgent change, O’Flynn said:
“The first 200 days have been wasted. The next 200 cannot be. We need a Government that is willing to act with urgency, competence and conviction — to make the hard decisions now, not kick them down the road. The people of Ireland deserve nothing less.”
