Richard O’Donoghue TD appointed chair of Dáil Committee on Budgetary Oversight

“Transparency, accountability, and value for money must be at the heart of every euro spent”

Independent Ireland is pleased to announce that Richard O’Donoghue TD has been appointed chair of the Dáil Committee on Budgetary Oversight.

The committee plays a key role in scrutinising the Government’s fiscal policy, examining both pre- and post-budgetary decisions, and ensuring that public spending aligns with the principles of transparency and efficiency.

Deputy O’Donoghue, a founding member of Independent Ireland and TD for Limerick County, has long championed greater accountability in public expenditure. His appointment reflects a commitment to ensuring that taxpayer money is spent wisely and that waste and mismanagement are addressed.

“I am honoured to take on this role and will work constructively with all parties to ensure that the committee delivers robust oversight,” said Deputy O’Donoghue. “Transparency, accountability, and value for money must be at the heart of every euro spent. Taxpayers deserve no less.”

Independent Ireland leader Michael Collins TD welcomed the appointment, stating:

“Richard’s dedication to fiscal responsibility and his commitment to the public interest make him an ideal choice for this position. Under his leadership, the committee will be a strong advocate for prudent financial management and democratic accountability.”

Deputy O’Donoghue has been vocal in calling for reforms to address government waste and inefficiency, including the establishment of an independent watchdog to oversee public spending.

As chair, he aims to foster a collaborative environment within the committee, working across party lines to ensure that fiscal policies are thoroughly examined and that the public’s trust in government spending is upheld.
