Shauna Ridge, Galway City Central

Shauna is a married mother of two from Kilkerrin, Co Galway, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the pressing issues facing Galway City. Working onsite at Bon Secours Hospital Galway since 2018, Shauna has witnessed firsthand the challenges related to healthcare, infrastructure, and housing in the area.

"Galway has always been my home," said Shauna. "Born and raised in the city, I understand the importance of community and the need for strong representation. As a proud Galwegian, I am determined to give back to the city that has shaped me."

Shauna's decision to run for election stems from her desire to ensure that every voice is heard and every concern is addressed. "For too long, voters have felt invisible and neglected," she explains. "I will be leading my campaign personally, going door to door to listen to the people's concerns and take action on their behalf. Transparency and accountability are paramount, and I pledge to uphold these values in all my endeavors."

In 2022, Shauna rallied the people of Galway to oppose the displacement of disabled parking spaces by the current council—a testament to her commitment to community welfare. Now, she calls upon the people of Galway once again to join her in ushering in a new era of representation.

"The city needs change," asserts Shauna, "and it needs councillors who will listen to the people and prioritize their needs. This is what I promise to do—to act for the people and make their voices heard."

Cllr. Declan Geraghty, Ballinasloe LEA

Cllr Geraghty, a devoted family man with a wife and son, initially took office following the 2019 Local Elections, marking the start of his contribution to public service.

Beyond his political endeavors, since 2005, Declan, alongside his business partner Michael Donnellan, has spearheaded DG Roofing, a flourishing roofing retail venture based in Williamstown, Co Galway, providing employment for 22 individuals. His appointment as Cathaoirleach of the Ballinasloe Municipal District Council in August 2023 is a testament to his leadership and commitment to community service.

With a strong dedication to addressing the challenges of drugs and rural crime through his role on the Joint Policing Committee. Declan is equally committed to ensuring access to social and affordable housing, aiming to secure a home for every resident in need within his community. Moreover, enhancing rural road conditions and encouraging youth participation in politics stand as pivotal aspects of his agenda.

Cllr Geraghty joins Independent Ireland following in the footsteps of his constituency colleague, Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice. Deputy Fitzmaurice said he was “delighted” that Cllr Geraghty was joining the Party: “Declan is a fine example of what it means to be a local politician. With deep roots in the locality, Declan has worked hard since being elected in 2019 but has been a been a huge part of the local community as an employer and community organiser for decades.”

Cllr. Nigel Dineen, Roscommon LEA

Cllr Nigel Dineen has gratefully been elected to Roscommon County Council twice, first in 2014 and then in 2019. Therefore, over the past 10 years he has demonstrated his steadfast commitment to serving the people of the Roscommon LEA. He has served as Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District and Vice Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Chairperson of Roads and the Transportation SPC and as a member of the Castlerea Town Team.

Nigel is a devoted husband and father to three children. He is also an avid GAA supporter having played football for County Roscommon in years past. He currently contributes to match analysis on the local regional radio station and previously managed Roscommon U21 teams to two All-Ireland finals.

Nigel has an established Auctioneering practice in Roscommon and Mayo, initially starting his business in Roscommon in 2007. Therefore, he understands the plight of businesses, particularly in rural Ireland and the challenges they face.

Cllr. Declan Kelly, Loughrea LEA

Cllr Declan Kelly brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to serving the people of East Galway.

With a proven track record of community advocacy and representational achievement, Cllr Kelly embodies the values of Independent Ireland and is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming local elections.

Mayo - Mark Devane, a dedicated dairy farmer and former carpenter with a diverse background in construction and sales, has officially declared his candidacy for Independent Ireland in the Claremorris Local Electoral Area (LEA). Mark spent several years working abroad, including in Australia and England, before returning home to pursue a career in dairy farming. With a herd of 60 cows, Devane has embraced the challenges and rewards of farming, following in the footsteps of his late father.

Born and raised in Kingland, Boyle, Forde has deep roots in the local community. He attended primary school in Kingland and later continued his education at St. Mary's Boyle. For over 30 years, Forde has worked with An Post and has served as the Post Master of Boyle's Post Office for the last 18 years, where he has played a vital role in fostering community connections and providing essential services to residents. Through his dedication, he has created employment opportunities and ensured that the post office remains a central hub for the community.

In addition to his role in the postal service, Forde also runs a small beef farm with his wife Maureen. His experience in farming and local business has given him a profound understanding of the challenges facing rural Ireland, including high running costs, over-regulation, and government mismanagement of resources.

Motivated by his passion for supporting small farmers and local businesses, Forde has decided to enter the political arena to advocate for rural communities and underrepresented groups. "I am deeply committed to advocating for local communities and ensuring that the voices of farmers, business owners, and underrepresented groups are heard," said Forde.

Donal Geraghty, Castlebar LEA

Donal Geraghty, a dedicated community leader and lifelong resident of Castlebar, has officially announced his candidacy for the Castlebar Local Electoral Area (LEA) in Mayo, representing Independent Ireland. With a strong commitment to serving his community and a wealth of experience in volunteer service and local businesses, Donal Geraghty brings a fresh perspective and a determination to drive positive change in Castlebar.

Born and bred in Castlebar, Donal, 32, has been deeply embedded in the life and spirit of the town for over three decades. His extensive volunteer work with the Castlebar Order of Malta Ambulance Corps and as a Community First Responder with the HSE National Ambulance Service reflects his dedication to community well-being and mental health support. In 2017, Donal played a pivotal role in establishing the Darkness Into Light Castlebar walk for suicide prevention, showcasing his commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the community.

Professionally, Donal serves as a support staff member at Mayo University Hospital and manages a small family business, Geraghty Fuels Castlebar, alongside his father, Padraic. This unique combination of roles provides Donal with a comprehensive understanding of both the healthcare needs of the community and the challenges faced by local businesses.

Donal's local priorities include advocating strongly for those overlooked by other parties, pushing for real action on longstanding projects such as the Imperial Hotel and Military barracks, and addressing basic community needs like road maintenance and hedge cutting promptly. Additionally, he supports the establishment of a new school for Castlebar Educate Together and is committed to increasing affordable housing options for young people in the area.
